Title:
- You Can't Make This Stuff Up: A Day in the Life of a MSP
Speaker(s):
Description:
- When you walk into an organization as a new manager or director in the Medical Staff Services Department (MSSD), there are certain processes and functions you assume are in place. Well, you know what happens when you assume! Even though you asked the right questions during your interview, after completing your first week, you soon realize they didn’t paint an accurate picture. It is evident the interviewer did not fully understand the ins and outs of an MSSD.
This session is a case study that will examine various situations that MSSDs face on multiple levels. How do you navigate a change in leadership? How do you manage a new team that does not have any institutional knowledge? How do you prioritize anything when everything is urgent? What if everything in the MSSD “needs fixed” and you find yourself shaking your head thinking, “You can’t make this stuff up?!”
This session will focus on key aspects you’ll find in every high-functioning medical staff services department and explore common situations that currently exist in facilities across the country. We will share real-life experiences of unexpected situations and discuss how we revamped existing processes and created new ones in order to achieve better results.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the characteristics of a high functioning Medical Staff Services Department
- Identify red flags before you walk into a new leadership role
- Identify strategies for optimizing and managing workflows and team organization to create a high-functioning team that can effectively manage the department and team when changes occur.
